By law, all schools must publish information about how they support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This is known as the school's SEN Information Report. The report should be read alongside Cumberland's SEND Local Offer, which outlines services and support available across the local area.
Mayfield School is a special school for pupils aged 4-19 with severe learning difficulties (SLD) and profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). Many pupils also have additional needs, including autism, sensory processing differences, physical disabilities and complex medical needs.
All pupils attending Mayfield School have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

We work in partnership with pupils, families and staff to identify needs at the earliest opportunity, reduce barriers to learning and ensure that all children are supported to succeed both academically and emotionally. How will my child’s EHCP be reviewed?
At Mayfield School, we believe that the views of our pupils and their families are central to success. Annual reviews are held at least once a year and provide an opportunity to celebrate achievements, discuss progress towards EHCP outcomes and plan together for the future. They sit alongside our ongoing communication with families through parents' evenings, reports and regular contact throughout the year.
We work in partnership with parents and carers to gather meaningful contributions from everyone involved in a child's life, including relevant education, health and social care professionals. By bringing together these different perspectives, alongside the voice of the child or young person, we can develop a holistic understanding of their strengths, needs, aspirations and wellbeing.
Our aim is to ensure that every EHCP remains personalised, ambitious and reflective of the support needed for each pupil to thrive both in school and beyond. Through open communication and collaborative working, we strive to make the annual review process a positive and supportive experience for all involved.
